Why John Obi Mikel Decided to Join Championship Side Middlesbrough.


Nigeria national team captain John Obi Mikel has undergone a medical at English Championship side, Middlesbrough.

Former Chelsea player decided to sign a deal with the Championship club despite Roma and Wolfsburg interest in him. The reason being Mikel wanted to return to England where his wife and two young children reside.


SunSport reports that the 31-year-old former Chelsea midfielder, travelled from London to the north-east yesterday after agreeing personal terms.

Mikel will be part of a Tony Pulis side looking to bring Premier League football back to the Riverside next season,

The two-time Premier League winner and Uefa Champions league winner spent the past two years at Tianjin TEDA in the Chinese Super League, but left as a free agent after a mutual agreement with the club.

Mikel is expected to bring his vast experience to the Riverside, having participated in three Fifa World cup, Olympic bronze winner and runners up in 2005 Fifa U21 World cup for his country Nigeria. He surely bring quality to boro team.

Boro currently sit fifth in the Championship table and seven points off leaders Leeds. With hope will drive the team further.
