Nigeria's Olympic Eagles (GroupB) Qualification Could Be Daisy Despite Getting Back into Contention At U23 Afcon in Egypt

Nigeria's Olympic Eagles put up a gallant performance to defeat the hard fighting Zambian team in the U23 African cup of nations second Group B game at the Al Salam Stadium on Tuesday.

The cup holders returned to contention for a place in the ssemifinal coming from a goal down to beat the Zambians.

Patson Daka gave Zambia the lead in the 11th minute, but the Eagles rallied back through goals from Orji Okonkwo, Kelechi Nwakali and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Group B qualification remain open as South Africa 1-0 win over Cote d’Ivoire in the group’s earlier match, top the pool with 4 points (following their 0-0 opening day scoreline with Zambia), and will contend with the inspired Nigerians on Friday.

Cote d’Ivoire, on 3 points like Nigeria but with less number of goals, will battle Zambia, with only one point, also on Friday.

Only victory against South Africa will steer Nigeria into the semi finals. A draw will mean their qualification will then depend on the outcome of Cote D'Ivoire match against Zambia... This means the Nigerians qualication remain daisy

Note: The three top placed teams at the tournament will qualify to represent Africa in the Men’s Football event at next year’s 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
