Why NPFL Clubs Do Not Disclose Players' Status and Contract

There is a growing concern about the status of  Nigeria Professional league (NPFL) players... bothering on the issue of secrecy and non-disclosure of  their sign-on fees cum salaries across all the clubs.

Apart from not knowing what players earn in NPFL, many clubs are also fond of owing players and coaches despite huge money released by government which happens to be  the owners of most NPFL clubs .

For some inexplicable reasons, most of these clubs hardly disclose the worth of their players’ contract talk less their wages as obtainable in other countries of the world.

Seemingly like a sown oath of secrecy, players do not either leak out their contract stipulations and remunerations for fear of being sacked or victimized in the club.

Agents and lawyers are not allowed to negotiate or be part of signing players contract. Any player that insists on bringing in his agent will not be signed no matter how good - that's the unprofessionalism we are talking about. So club management do not keep to contract and players are paid intermittently and nobody can enforce breach of contract.

It sounds incredible, but these things happens in most NPFL clubs. If you are in the strata of star players in the team you can call the shots. Again, if you are part of the first team players you can be assured of your full salary, but then, if you are a bench warmer or do not even make the team, your remunerations has entered 'voice mail' and if you dare protest, you are victimized to the highest order.

Sometimes, government has disbursed the funds as budgeted, yet some players don't get paid and monies are diverted into private pockets of some key members of the management team.

NANPF has call on NFF and the various League managers to put in place appropriate rules and regulations that will compel all Professional Football Players, especially those in NPFL to engage  FIFA/NFF Football intermediaries, or Lawyers in signing of Contracts and other related services,  beginning from the 2020/2021 League season.
