sweet. The windfall for AFCON is still on. From Abuja to Lagos, Ogun, Cross
Rivers, Akwa Ibom… The gifts keep pouring in.
Today, Glo chairman, Mike Adenuga
has fulfilled his promised gift to Super Eagle coach, Stephen Keshi, for
winning the African Cup of Nation 2013.The cars
were presented to Keshi this afternoon at the Globacom office in Victoria
Island – a Range Rover and a Toyota
Camry. Presenting the keys is Mr Mohammed Jameel, Glo group Chief Operating
Officer.
Chief Mike Adenuga who was overwhelmed
by the joy of Super Eagles winning the
African Cup of Nations after 19 years of futile attempts. Promised to give a Range Rover Sport and Posh Apartment in
Lagos, in addition to the $200,000 he gave to Keshi.
He has earlier promised to take over
from the government the payment of Keshi's Monthly salary from the month of
March 2013 and to give Toyota Camry as an official car. This is what Glo went
on to fulfill today.
The Glo Chairman had earlier splashed a sum
of $1million on the victorious Super Eagles team.The amount was in fulfillment
of a pledge the business magnate made to the team, if they won the AFCON
Trophy.
A statement from Glo said Dr. Adenuga
presented the cheque for 160 million Naira (the equivalent of US$1million) to
Super Eagles Captain Joseph Yobo at his (Adenuga’s) Abuja residence.
He said: “We are indeed proud of the
achievement of the Nigerian National Team at the Africa Cup of Nations. I
congratulate the Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi, the rest of the coaching crew, the
players, the Nigerian Football Federation and the Federal Government for this
important victory which has rekindled hope among our people.”
Dr. Adenuga particularly commended Coach
Keshi for his commitment, adding that, “he (Keshi) has done the nation proud,
that is why it is important to reward him.”
