HOW LARGE ARE CHELSEA SUPPORTERS IN WEST AFRICA: Let’s Take a Count
Trailer Load of Chelsea Fans |
In Asia,
Yes! But it may not be true after all that Manchester United fans in West
Africa are larger in number than Chelsea fans.
Though, Nerbom has reported that Man-U has over 100 million supporters
in West Africa as compared to 75 million Chelsea fans. But the research company
in Accra Ghana has based its results on estimated figures, which may not be
absolutely correct.
However, GreenHunters Sports International is interested in
these figures and wants to know for sure what the size of Chelsea supporters in
West Africa is. The Sport marketing company in Lagos Nigeria is ready to
promote the Blues, if the number is anywhere close to 75 million or more; then
Stanford Bridge will have no choice but to start a fans culture program in the
sub region.
Are You A
Chelsea Fan in West Africa?
Nerbom
commentators are of the opinion that due to Manchester United poor runs this season;
many of its supporters may have crosses carpet over to Real Madrid and Bayern
Munich respectively. On the other hand, Chelsea fans may have increased by 2%
this season. The reason isn’t far fetched. The return of ‘the special one,’
Jose Mourinho and the fact that Chelsea has been in contention for both EPL and
UEFA Champions League trophy for most of the season.
Well, not
many football analysts agreed there were any increase in Chelsea fan base this
season. Some rather predicted that the numbers are likely to reduce in the next
2 years or so, since most West African players in Chelsea: Didier Drogba,
Solomon Kalou, Micheal Essien, had been transferred out of the club. The few
remaining players , Mikel Obi, Damba Ba, aren’t first choice players in the
team. According to Jema Haruna, a sport analyst in Jos Nigeria: “There are
every indications that Mikel Obi and Damba Ba may sek transfer to other clubs
when the Summer Transfer window open in July.

Presently,
there are still large cluster of Chelsea fans in Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria,
Guinea and now Cameroon. The number of Chelsea supporters in Cameroon may have
grown astronomically due to the rejuvenation of Samuel O’Eto in Chelsea team this season. The rising form
of Eto may have excited most Cameroonian football fans looking forward to the
world cup in Brazil.
Again, it may not be correct to predict that Chelsea fan base may reduce in the next 2 years, since
we cannot tell what players will be joining the blues next season or in 2016.
Players like Victor Moses or Kenneth Omeruo may pick form and return
