Well, let me tell you now: Football has gone digital... and the fans digital experience is what's making all the difference in today's world. I should ask you then: would you allow your club to lag behind on this?


The early Nigeria Professional Footballl League (NPFL) clubs begin to look into striking partnership deal with digital technology firms, to spearhead their Digital marketing strategies and programs, the better.

Of course, you are aware of this...
Over 76% of the Nigerian population use devices (Laptop, Phones, Tabs, Smartwatches and so on)... and they actively spend more of their time on the internet. The emphasis has shifted, it is not more about engaging fans in the stadium or on television, but more of engaging them real time on the Internet, where they spend more of their time.

Both Chelsea FC and Manchester United have struck new partnership deals with technology companies to enhance the technological and digital experience for their fans.


Manchester United Digital Strategy
Manchester United announced a digital transformation partnership with HCL Technologies. Within the deal, HCL will create digital initiatives for the club and their 659 million global followers.

One digital initiative includes the Xperience Lab at Old Trafford, where HCL Technologies and Manchester United will explore revolutionary ways in which the club uses technology to create a unified fan experience for supporters and in the process set a new engagement benchmark in the world of sport.

The three year engagement with Manchester United could provide a blueprint for other global organizations to engage with their customers and users.

Chelsea Aim At Digital Leadership in Global Sports
Following on from Manchester United’s partnership, Chelsea FC have inked a deal with Wipro Limited. The digital specialists will now become the club’s official digital and IT partner.

The Indian company will help Chelsea FC create a new digital and technology experience for fans inside Stamford Bridge on match days and they will look to enhance the digital experience for fans anywhere at anytime.

Managing Director at Chelsea FC, Christian Purslow said: “Wipro’s expertise in building winning propositions that sit at the intersection of strategy, design and technology will help sustain our position as the digital leader in global sport.

In today’s market, sport has become fan focused and experience led. With 45% of social media activity relating to sport on TV and with 70% of sports fans using second screen devices, more and more clubs should look into digital and technology partnerships to give fans an unmissable and unforgettable experience.

There's no two ways about it, fans want to access your club website, they want to actively follow your club's activities on social media: facebook, twitter, Youtube, Snapchat... By now, each NPFL should be looking at how to build their own Club's App for a total fans experience in one place. In your club's App you could include eTicket and eStore options, where club can sell ticket and it's merchandize online through their App.
