NFF "Inferiority Complex" and Why Super Eagles May Never Win 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) want Super Eagles fans to be content wirh Nigeria reaching perhaps, the quarter finals of 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, My question is when will Nigeria ever target to win the mundial?
When NFF fail to plan well, they are planning for the Super Eagles to fail! It all boils down to inferiority complex or why should Nigeria ever want to be at the world cup, if they are not planning to win the tourney... and Just being content with making up the numbers.
An insider told us it is a tall order. There are things NFF officials like Amaju Pinnick knows that may not be made public. Super Eagles of Nigeria does not have the brand quality to pull global crowd. At best they can be branded "Giant Killers." We all know FIFA is a commercial animal and it will not pay-off if Nigeria win the world cup in Russia....that may decline corporate sponsorship, which is the live blood of the competition.
Nigeria national team doesn't have star players like Lionel Messi, Cristano Ronaldo, Neymar Junior... or the brand reputation of the German national team, Brazilian national team or the Italian national team... expected to win again in Russia.
Nigeria will be coming to Russia with a relatively unknown players and the Super Eagles will largely rely on the "Nigerian Spirit" and young enterprising talents to progress in the competition. Although, Gernot Rohr (Nigeria Head Coach) did so well in the qualifiers, but I do not think NFF rates him a world class coach or that he has what it take to lead a team tactically, to win the world cup.
It will be a miracle to win, if Nigeria is matched with Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Italy or Germany. But we have seen such miracle happen before in the Olympics. Nigeria stunned a star studded Brazilian team, including Ronaldo Lima, Rivaldo and Bebeto in the team. Nigeria dream team went ahead to win the Gold medal after also beating Argentina at the finals of Altanta 96 Men Football event.
In the 2014 world cup in Brazil, it was a thug of war between Nigeria and Argentina...as Messi scored a brace, Ahmed Musa replied back the two goals. Nigeria have always shown the potentials to progress and possibly win the world cup, if only they could believe in themselves and over come their inferiority complex when they meet big teams like Germany, Spain, Brazil....
But the thing is this, if NFF doesn't prepare the Nigerian team to develop "Champions Mentality," how will they win. If the players are not adequately motivated to go the extra mile, how will they excel difficult games?
