Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau Emerged New NFF President - After A Run-off Election in Benin

 


Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has emerged as the elected president of Nigeria Football Federation NFF.


The presidential election took place in Benin, Edo state, Gusau polled 21 votes but failed to meet the 50 percent of the total votes.


Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi polled 12 votes, Shehu Dikko 6, as Peterside Idah and Abba Yola had one vote each.

While the electoral committee declared run off between Gusau and Akinwunmi following the inability of Gusau to meet the 50 percent total votes.


In a bid to conduct run off between Gusau and Akinwunmi the Lagos State FA boss, Sheu Dikko and Abba Yola addressed the delegates and announced their withdrawal from the race.


Peterside Idah who polled one vote refused to step down as he contested with Gusau in the run off election.


At the end of the run off election, Gusau polled 39,while Peterside Idah polled one vote.

“The body of thirty-seven (37) state football associations including ding the Federal Capital Territory, affiliated to NFF, shall have one (1) delegate each, totalling thirty-seven (37) delegates. The Nigeria Professional Football League, subordinate affiliated to NFF shall have Twenty (20) delegates.


“Nigeria National League subordinate affiliated to NFF shall have Twelve (12) delegates


Nigeria-Amateur League Nationwide League One affiliated with NFF shall have Twelve (12) delegates;


Nigeria Women Football League affiliated with NFF shall have Twelve [12) delegates.


The Nigeria Referees Association, subordinate affiliated to NFF shall have Six (6) delegates.


“The Nigeria Football Coaches Association, affiliated with NFF shall have Six (6) delegates.


The players’ association, affiliated with NFF shall have Six (6) delegates


NFF Elections there will be: 111 votes.


According to the ammended statute, 8 bodies will vote in the next elections, which includes the following;


37 FA Chairmen


20 NPFL clubs


12 NNL Clubs


12 NWFL Clubs


12 NLO clubs


6 Referees


6 Player Union


6 Coaches


Total= 111


Therefore, if Gusau won by 39 votes and the number equal 50% or more votes cast, then it means not upto 111 representatives were present to cast there votes.
