Creating A Financial Ecosystem for Women Football in Nigeria - Nkechi Obi Walking the Talking

The chairman of Nigeria Women Football League (The NWFL), Ms. Nkechi Obi had an in-depth conversation with the EduTimes Africa team on the fact that beyond talent development, building a financially viable ecosystem for the women of Nigeria is where the emphasis should be.

Her board is walking the talk with #WomenFootballRising strategic direction and initiatives

"According to KPMG, we only have 77 people playing in the top five leagues of the world. Yes, only 77. Yet in the third tier of our Men's league system, I have 25,000 players there. How are you going to ensure those ones earn a good living?"

- Ms Nkechi Obi, Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League (The NWFL) and CEO of Sports Nigeria Ltd.

Nigerians playing in Europe's top football leagues and earning millions of dollars per annum has taught us in this part of the world that sports is in fact big business. So how do we replicate this here? How do we make sports a viable career path in Nigeria as it is in South Africa and Tunisia?

Nkechi Obi, the brains behind the innovative Team Nigeria concept in 2003 knows precisely how to make this happen and is determined to make sure it does.
