5 BEST NIGERIAN PLAYERS 2012: Has Mikel Obi Won The Heart Of Nigerian Fans Online?

   A thousand football fans voted online for Nigerian player of the year 2012 male category. 70% fans from Nigeria voted and 30%, I think are Nigerian fans in despora. After collation of votes, we found out that only nine players were actually voted for - Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Emenike, Gabriel Ruben, Ikechukwu Uche, Joseph Yobo, Mikel Obi, Osaze Odewingie, Vincent Enyeama, and Victor Moses. We also found out that only five of the players got up to a 100 votes and garnered 703 votes from the 1000 votes casted. These are the top 5 players I present here.

Some of the voters posted comments as to why they choosed the player they voted for and why they decided not to vote for the other likely candidates.



Mikel Obi



1. MIKEL OBI: Top on the list is the Chelsea star player, Mikel Obi. He garnered 212 votes. Most of the fans said that Mikel was the only Nigerian player that got world commentators to mention Nigeria in the most influential club football tournament, UEFA champion's league. He was a vital member of Chelsea FC that won the champion's League in May 2012.

However, fans said that Mikel is not committed to the national team. He didn't play most of AFCON 2013 qualification games.

Ikechukwu Uche

2. IKECHUKWU UCHE: Second on the list is the Real Mallorca striker, Ikechukwu Uche. He garnered 158 votes.

Fans said that Ikechukwu Uche was outstanding in Nigeria qualification for AFCON 2013. He scored in most of the games. But he hasn't been able to command a regular playing time in his Spanish Club, Real mallorca.

Victor Moses

3. VICTOR MOSES: Third on the list is the Chelsea new signed-on attacking midfielder, Victor Moses. He garnered 115 votes.

Perhaps, he is the rave of the moment, Fans said Victor scored some crucial goals and made lots of assists for his former club, Wigan Atletics His recent transfer to Chelsea gave Nigeria some positive mention in World football. Since Keshi's reign as Super Eagles coach, Victor has participated credibly well for the national team; especially during the AFCON 2013 qualification games.

Ahmed Musa

4. AHMED MUSA: Following closely in the forth position is the CSKA Moscow attacking winger, Ahmed Musa. He garnered 112 votes.

Fans said that Ahmed has been great in his performance for the national team. He provided lots of assists for strikers and scored some goals during the AFCON 2013 qualification games.

Osaze Odemwingie

5. OSAZE ODEMWINGIE: Fifth on the list with 106 votes is Osaze Odewingie, the west brom star player.

Osaze is doing well in English Premier League (EPL). He once made the BBC first eleven in February. Osaze has scored some vital goals for his club.



However, fans said that Osaze's attitude with the national team has dented his personality image. And this may contribute why Keshi has kept him out of the Super Eagles for the last one year or so. He didn't play any game during AFCON 2013 qualification series.
