Prince Ali Seek to Save World Football, as Corruption Scandal Rocks FIFA | Ahead FIFA Presidential Election This Friday

Amidst FIFA Crisis and the arrest of officials on corruption charges last Wednesday, Prince Ali bin al Hussein has called for leadership that will “restore confidence” in football global governing body.

FIFA was played into the most serious scandal in its history on Wednesday after a wave of arrests of football officials in Zurich on corruption charges.

Seven officials, including FIFA vice-president Jeffery Webb, were arrested by Swiss authorities on behalf of the US Department of Justice, which indicted 18 people alleging bribery totaling more than $150m.

In a separate development, the Swiss Attorney General also opened criminal proceedings over the award of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup. It will question 10 current FIFA executive Committee members who voted that tournament.

The twin proceedings have cast FIFA into a state of crisis and Prince Ali insist that it is time to sanitize the body and save world football from the death of corruption –that’s why he needs the vote of members of the congress.

Jordan’s Prince Ali is the only remaining candidate challenging incumbent president Sepp Blatter, who is seeking fifth term in office.

Portuguese football legend Luis Figo last week confirmed his withdrawal from the presidential race and Dutch football Association’s President Michael Van Praag pulled out in order to support Prince Ali’s candidacy for the FIFA President.

FIFA Presidential Election is due to take place today Friday June 29, and indication shows that the incumbent Sepp Blatter may likely retain his position; unless there’s drastic change of voting pattern in today’s election.

In the meantime, the members of the UEFA executive committee are convinced that there’s a strong need for a change in the leadership of this FIFA and strongly believe that the FIFA congress can be postponed with new date for the Election in the next six months – FIFA is in Crisis Now,
