Jorge Mendes’ Agency Partnership with Chinese conglomerate, May Become the Strongest Players in the Football Transfer Market
Gestifute, the powerful football
agency founded by influential Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes, has entered into a
wide-ranging strategic partnership with Foyo Culture and Entertainment, a
subsidiary of Chinese investment conglomerate Fosun International.
Under the agreement designed to
further boost the development of football in China, the two parties will
co-operate on initiatives such as agent services for players, the operation of
games and the handling of footballers’ image rights.
Gestifute and Foyo will co-operate
in encouraging the exchange of talent between China and foreign markets, while
training establishments will be development for the next generation of Chinese
players.
The unveiling of the partnership in
Shanghai was attended by Mendes and Guo Guagchang, founder of Fosun. Leading
football names were also in attendance such as former Chelsea, Real Madrid and
Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho; Benfica chief executive Domingos Soares de
Oliveira; Real Madrid executives Luíz Fernandez, Rafael de los Santos and
Begoña Sanz and AS Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev.
Mendes said: “Not only the Chinese,
but also the world of football will have much to gain from this union. I am
sure that within a year we will have a clear demonstration of our work
together.”
