Nigeria Fixtures: 2016 Rio Olympics Men Football Event [Also Host city, Time and Weather Information]



The Dream Team, Nigeria U23 National team is drawn in Group B at 2016 Rio Olympics Men Football event alongside Japan, Sweden and Columbia. In a Group that has three continental champions, may not be as easy as some analysts may think, considering the comparable strength of teams involved.

Nigeria will play its first game against Japan on August 4 at the 40, 549 capacity Arena da Amazonia. Then, three days after, on August 7, Samson Siasia tutored team will take on Sweden at the same venue 



Nigeria’s last group game will be against Colombia at the  48, 234 capacity Arena Corinthians on August 10 while Sweden and Japan will travel to Salvador for their final group game, which will be played at the same time.


 Host city and Weather Information
Manaus, the only host city in northern Brazil, is situated at the confluence between the Negro and Solimoes rivers. And it is five hours behind Nigeria, meaning that matches will take place very late in the night or early morning next day.


It was one of the host cities of the 2014 World Cup, and amid complaints of the heat. The temperatures can rise to 37 degrees, Manaus was the scene of the first official World Cup water break in the game between Portugal and the USA on June 22, 2014.

For journalists and Nigeria fans hoping to travel to the games, it will take four hours by domestic flights from Rio de Janeiro or almost 56 hours of road travel.
