Not China, Why Osaze Odenwingie Head to Indonesia At the Twillight of His Career

Most sports marketers felt Osaze Odenwingie should have moved to play in China at the twilight of his career. At least he should have followed the footsteps of compatriots Obafemi Martins, John Mikel Obi, Brown Ideye...who now enjoys astonishing fortunes from Chinese Super League (CSL); remunerations they didn't even enjoy at the prime of their career.

CSL is a place where players in the calibre of Odenwingie go to receive what I may call "Retirement Benefits" after such illustrious career in Europe.

The 35-year-old, who previously starred for Cardiff City, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion FC and also featured in three FIFA World Cup for his country Nigeria... decided last Monday, after a successful medical, to sign for Indonesian first division club, Madura United FCUnited

Although details of the contract for Odemwingie were not revealed, the player was handed the Number 24 jersey. But some transfer market analysts felt that the sign on fee cannot be anything compared to what he should have got in China.

But they did not consider the fact that Odenwingie has been redundant for awhile now; and his form may have dropped drastically. Indications may have shown he would have preferred to go to CSL, which is currently attracting world media spotlight. Well, wishes are not horses.

But another group of analysts believe Odenwingie may have signed an unbelievable lucrative contract which management of Madura United may not want to disclose publicly. The Indonesian first division league is fast following the ways of CSL

Odenwingie became the third high profile signing after the duo of Micheal Essien and Carlton Cole also joined Indonesian first division clubs.
