The UK’s Guardian newspaper has claimed that Swiss prosecutor Cornel Borbély, who was chairman of the Fifa ethics committee’s investigatory chamber, was in the process of examining complaints about the governing body’s president, Gianni Infantino, and general secretary Fatma Samoura when he was removed last month.
The complaints focused on allegations that the duo improperly sought to influence the election in March of Ahmad Ahmad to the role of president of the Confederation of African Football.
