George Weah May Become the New Liberian President


Retired professional footballer turned politician, George Oppong Weah, has reportedly won the Liberia Presidential election.

The 1995 FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d’Or winner, may succeed iincumbent President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, in a contest that completes the country’s first democratic transition of power in more than 70 years.



Although, Liberia’s official announcement at 9.30pm GMT reported that this is not true, because they are still collating the results of the polls.

But if this turns out as it is, Mr Weah will be the only African player to win both FIFA World Player of the Year and now a presidential election.
