NPFL Clubs Can Make Over A Million Dollars A Season - Following this Guide
Hello, my name is Benson Chukwueke, a Football Marketing
consultant, Founder and CEO GreenHunters Sports International, a Sport
Marketing and Management Agency based here in Lagos Nigeria. I want us to look
at how NPFL clubs run their business in Nigeria and one vital step they need to take to improve
their revenue earning by over a billion dollars or so.
The revenue potentials of NPFL clubs are all
lying waste...
- If NPFL clubs will not aggressively promote
and persuade football lovers to attend their matches, then the stadiums will
continually to be empty.
- If NPFL clubs will not strategically engage
corporate brands, then no brand will subscribe to advertise on their club's
shirt or use their players as brand ambassadors.
- If NPFL clubs will not approach sportswear
companies and negotiate deals with them, then no sportswear company will take
up the license to manufacture the club's merchandise.
These are the reasons I say NPFL clubs loose
over a billion dollars revenue opportunities in gate taking, shirt sponsorship,
endorsements, royalties...because they sit on their armchairs swinging and
waiting.
If No Marketing, so how will NPFL clubs grow?
While the cost of recruiting quality players
and managing a professional football club in Nigeria keep escalating and the
state governments ineptitude or club owners inability of releasing enough funds
as at when due, what are the options left for NPFL club managers?
There's no option to it, they should go
for aggressive and strategic marketing
of their products... to earn more revenue and possibly profits.
The thing is, if NPFL club managers will not engage in marketing, then how do they expect their clubs to grow? In football like in any other enterprise, marketing happen to be the epicenter revolves everything. It is the beginning, it is the end. It is food, water, air and sunlight combined for any business enterprise.
You may have a fantastic team and your players
are playing real good, that's so important but secondary in the business. What
matters is, are spectators attending
your games, are people buying your merchandise, are corporate brands
advertising on your club's shirt and other advertising spaces available? How much
revenue is your club making per season?
First, LMC and NFF must work urgently to create
an enabling business environment and remove all impediments that inhibits NPFL
club managers from concluding business deals with corporate brands as well as
sports related product manufacturers and marketers.
My submission is NPFL club managers should make
marketing a priority in their operational structure and create a well staffed
marketing department. Otherwise, engage a Sport Marketing Agency to carry out
these functions for them.
