Lobi Stars Get Off A Victorious Start In Caf Champions League Group Stage, Beat Mamelodi Sundown

Enugu was the venue and Mamelodi sundowns  the team to beat. it was a clash of champions as the absa premier league winners took on the winners of the NPFL in the first group game of the CAF champions league.

Lobi came into the game  facing a sundowns side that hasn’t  lost a game in the absa premiership this season. They rose to the challenge and came from a goal down to win the game. They were undoubtedly the better team and as most people say, the better team always wins…

Anthony Laffor opened the net for the day, sundowns going ahead in the 38th minute  following a pass from leandro sirmo.  Lobi equalized with a penalty just before half time .

They went ahead and killed the game off in the 53rd minute, mathias martin scoring the second goal for Lobi stars hence gaining total control of the game.

 Sundowns saw little of the ball, their goalkeeper, Mweene, was the best player for them as he rose on many occasions when called into action to stop Lobi stars from increasing the Lead. At the end, it was victory for Nigerian representatives.

The victory for Lobi is indeed a bright light for Rangers, who are the second Nigerian team playing  continental football,  expectations are high, and they can pick a few examples from Lobi’s victory today. Despite the opponent, with determination, team work and believe they can rise to any challenge and overcome. who knows, they might even carry the title at the end.

Up next , Lobi goes away to ASEC Mimosas  on the 19th of January for their second group A game. Solomon Ogbeide’s side are in high spirits and are optimistic that they would come out winners just like they did today.

They’ve waited for 14 years to make another appearance in the caf champions league , who knows this time they won’t just be another team in the tournament.
