Nigeria Vs South Africa - Why Bafana-bafana May Not Survive Super Eagles Onslaught [AFCON2019]

Nigeria Vs South Africa
Venue: Cairo Stadium
Date: Wednesday, July 10

African Cup of Nation quarter finals has yet again brought together this perennial rivals: Nigeria Vs South Africa.

The two teams have met twice in the qualifiers.

Head to head, South Africa defeated Nigeria 2 - 0 in the qualifier match in Uyo and drew 1 - 1 in Johannesburg. But despite that, Nigeria top the group and qualified for Afcon with a game to spare.

Nigeria team has since built momentum after that home loss to South Africa. And seriously speaking bafana-bafana may not survive the onslaught of the current Super Eagles squad.

This encounter at the Cairo Stadium will be the third meeting between these sides at Afcon, with Nigeria boasting a 100% record. It is like a jinx, Nigeria just have a way of brushing off South Africa.

Worse still, the one-time African champions have failed to score against their West African foes in either of those matches. Observers are of the opinion that South African side find it difficult to keep pace with the tenacity of West African style of football.

Yet Bafana Bafana may have developed self believe and motivation following a shock 1-0 win over hosts Egypt...playing a very organised defense network and surging forward intermittently. They are hoping to also keep the Nigerian team at bay with counter attacks to pay off.

As it is now, it may be difficult to keep the pacy and highly skillful Super Eagles attackers at bay. Though, has shown slow start and sometimes, complacency at the defence line. But if the Nigerians get their act early, South Africa may trail by large goal margin.
