Super Eagles Cruise into The Semi Final of AFCON 2019, After Beating South Africa
William Troost-Ekong 86 minutes goal send Nigeria’s Super Eagles into the semi-final of the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Egypt..
The match played at the Cairo international stadium saw Super Eagles draw the first blood, through the enterprise run of Samuel Chukwueze through the Bafana Bafana defense line, a typical lionel Messi style to score the first goal.
Chukwueze, easily the man of match, became the tormentor inchief against the Bafana Bafana, making dribbling run from the right wing into the eighteen yard box and causing a lot problem for the South African defence just before the break.
South Africa came fighting back in the second half and it paid off via a controversial goal, which took referee over 8 minutes stoppage and checking of VAR. So it was looking like the game will go to extra time after the referee evenually decided it was a goal. (1 - 1).
But the Super Eagles pied pressure through several pacy runs from Ahmed Musa from the left flank and later Moses Simon was introduced to continue the runs and eventually through goal mouth scrambling from a corner kick, the ball drop on William Ekong feet for the second and winning goal of the match.
With this victory Nigeria has qualified for the Semi finals and will meet Desert foxes of Algeria on Sunday July 14 at Cairo International Stadium, by 8pm Nigeria time.
