FIFA Ban Samson Siasia For Life Over Match Fixing


FIFA has announced a life ban for former Super Eagles coach and player Samson Siasia,from all football related activities, for being guilty of accepting to receive bribe and fix matches.

FIFA however failed to name the actual matches that Siasia agreed to help betting baron to manipulate.

The world soccer ruling made the decision known in a media release on Friday.

“The adjudicatory chamber of the independent ethics committee has found Mr Samson Siasia, a former official of the Nigeria Football Federation guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribe in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA code of ethics,” reads the release from FIFA.

“The formal ethics proceedings against Mr Siasia were iniated on 15 February , 2019 and stem from an extensive investigation into matches that Mr. Wilson Raj Perumal attempted to manipulate for betting purposes. This large scale investigation was conducted by FIFA via its competent departments and in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders and authorities.

”In its decision, the adjudicatory chamber, found that Mr Siasia had breached article 11 (Bribery) of the 2009 edition of the FIFA code of ethics and banned him for life from all football related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level. In addition, a fee of CHF 50,000 has been imposed on Mr Siasia.

“The decision was notified to Mr Siasia today, the date on which the ban comes into force. ”

Siasia was capped 51 times by Nigeria and scored 16 goals. He was part of the Super Eagles team that conquered the rest of Africa at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, and debuted at the FIFA World Cup in the USA same year.

Aside from managing the Super Eagles, Siasia has also coached the Nigeria U-20 and U-23 teams on two occasions in the past.
