The 29th season of the Premier League is set to kick-off on September 12, 2020, it was confirmed at a shareholders’ meeting on July 24.

The campaign was initially scheduled to start on August 8 but was forced to be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The final day of the new season will take place on May 23, 2021.

It will be the second campaign to have a mid-season break in February which will again see a gameweek split across two weekends.

Liverpool will go into the season as defending champions and will be joined by Leeds United, West Brom and Fulham following their promotion from the Championship.

A league statement read: “Premier League Shareholders [have] agreed to start the 2020/21 Premier League season on 12 September 2020. The final match round of the campaign will take place on 23 May 2021.

“The Premier League will continue to consult The FA and EFL regarding the scheduling of all domestic competitions.”

The opening day fixtures will see champions Liverpool host newly-promoted Leeds!

• Crystal Palace vs Southampton (Saturday, September 12 – 3pm)
• Fulham vs Arsenal (Saturday, September 12 – 3pm)
• Liverpool vs Leeds United (Saturday, September 12 – 3pm)
• Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton (Saturday, September 12 – 3pm)
• West Bromwich Albion vs Leicester City (Saturday, September 12 – 3pm)
• West Ham United vs Newcastle United (Saturday, September 12 – 3pm)
• Brighton and Hove Albion vs Chelsea (Monday, September 14 – 8pm)
• Sheffield United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (Monday, September 14 – 8pm)

When is the Community Shield?

Premier League champions Liverpool will take on FA Cup winners Arsenal in the 2020 FA Community Shield.

It will be held at Wembley on Saturday, August 29 and will kick-off at 4:30pm.

It has been reported that the match could serve as a test event to welcome a restricted number of supporters into Wembley as part of plans for supporters to make a socially distanced return to sports venues more widely from October 1.

The increased safety measures from the government in late July may mean fans will not be able to attend.

The match will be immediately followed by an international break from September 2 to 10 with England facing Iceland and Denmark in the Nations League.

When is the 2020 summer transfer window?

The Premier League have confirmed an agreement on a 10-week summer transfer window which opened on July 27.

The window opened the day after the 2019/20 season finishes and will close again on October 5.

The Premier League said that following consultation with the English Football League, a domestic-only window will also be added from October 5 and close on October 16.

Transfers between Premier League clubs will not be able to occur during this period, but top-flight sides can trade with EFL clubs and loan or sign players permanently.
