ENDSARS Fallout: John Ogu Threatens to Spill Out Fire As NFF Label Him "Unpatriotic Nigerian"
Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu has threatened to “spill out a lot of things” in the Super Eagles and the NFF if the federation continues to twist his comments.
Ogu has been in the new of recent following his call for the Super Eagles players to boycott next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.
Following the killing of innoce ENDSARS protesters in Lekki, Lagos on Tuesday, Ogu called on the players to boycott the matches and allow the children of the politicians to go and represent the country in the matches.
However, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF reacting to the story, described Ogu as unpatriotic Nigerian and asked him to Emulate Ivory Coast legend, Didier Drogba.
Ogu was in Super Eagles’ squad that lost 1-2 to the Three Lions of England in a friendly match at Wembley in 2018, but was an unused sub in their matches at the World Cup in Russia.
Speaking on World Football show on BBC World Service radio yesterday, Ogu, who is back in Lagos having left Saudi Arabian club Al-Adalah in September said: “What is the point in representing the country if this is what the politicians, the people we’re representing, can do to us? How can I go to the national team to represent my country, to represent the government and the people when I think of the lost souls of those who have been killed? Boycotting the AFCON qualifier in November would ‘make a statement’ in the protest the government.”
However, a top official of the NFF was quoted saying that such call coming from John Ogu to other players to boycott of AFCON qualifier was uncalled for. “Ogu has just demonstrated that he is an unpatriotic Nigerian. How will he feel seeing the flags of other nations by the time hostilities begin for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon? Every reasonable Nigerian, including the youths is thinking of how the country can move forward, and John Ogu is thinking of how to kill our source of joy (football).
But Ogu fired back, and threatened to expose more
“I only asked that the people in power in our country should tell their kids to go represent the country since it’s right for them to kill innocent children while raising the flag of the country recite our National anthem. If the NFF person who gave this interview can call me I will school him.
“According to the idiot who gave the interview saying I’m not relevant in the National team, I want to tell you I’m relevant and will remain same .
“If you have balls to come out and speak such in my face, then I will rate you” he said.
Ogu added colloquially “I no blame una sha for that NFF Na people wey give una mouth to fit call me Irrelevant person after serving the country . You want me to Emulate Didier Drogba but you can’t emulate officials from countries like Portugal. Don’t even let me spill out a lot of things . Y’all respect yourselves 👍”
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will square up against the Leone Stars on November 13 on a yet to be determined venue while the return leg will be on 17.
