African Qualifiers for Fifa World Cup 2022: Why Does the Postponement Favour Super Eagles?
FIFA announced on its official website that after consultation with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) it has been decided the African 2022 World Cup qualifiers will be postponed once again to be held between next September and March of 2022 due to the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in addition to CAF's desire to provide the best playing conditions for participating teams.
Here, we want to look at the effect of such postponement on teams like the Nigeria national team - Super Eagles
You may say the postponement of the African Qualifiers is for every team participating, so there shouldn't be any advantage or disadvantage to any of the teams. That sounds right, but is not entirely true.
For example, South Africa just appointed a new coach, the Belgian tactician Hugo Broos, and the postponement may just favour the Bafana bafana team because the Coach and players would have more time to get to know each other and fashion out a more tactical approach to their games.
But for Super Eagles of Nigeria, the postponement may not be in their best favour. And I will tell you why? Nigerian fans were already excited of the current form and performances of most of their players in various clubs and were looking forward to see how the Super Eagles would devour their first opponent this May.
I would say the Lone stars of Liberia we're so lucky not to have met the reverberating Kelechi Iheanacho and the goal machine Paul Onuachu in their hottest form this May.
By September, the scenario may not be the same. Most Super Eagles players in top shape now would have relax a bit. They would have gone on holiday and just returning for the new season... Of course, we all know that's when most players get rusty in their play and loose a bit of form.
