The Trouble with Building A Super Team like Paris Saint Germain

Everyone who can play the ball today is in Paris Saint Germain. There’s nothing better than Lionel Messi, no better defender than Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum is one of the best midfielders at the moment, Achraf Hakimi is the best right-back in Europe.

Already, Neymar is leading the team and I guess Kylian Mbappé will forego anything in the world to be part of this great history about to be made.

It seems Nasser Al-Khelaifi has finally built a Super team of his dream. The next thing is for the players to start delivering trophies. And that's where the real trouble starts

Under Pressure to Win

And after building a ‘super team’ of the likes we rarely see in the sport, all of the pressure will be on the Parisiens.

When PSG don’t win the league, everyone sees it as a disaster because they spend a lot of money to put together such rare qualities in one team.

I’m sure Maurice Pochettino is ready for this. I guess he would prefer to have a fantastic squad with a lot of pressure knowing that he needs to win, than the other way around.

The players must be under pressure when you create a super team, because it’s obvious they want to win the Champions League. They’ve been following it for a long time and this seems like it’s the last push.

Ego and Power Play

Neymar spent almost two seasons to displace Cavani in a fierce fight before he eventually became the Lord of Paris. Now, two bigger Lords have just arrived: Sergio Ramos, the Lord of Madrid, from arguably the biggest club in the world - Real Madrid; and the Lord of the game himself, the god of football Lionel Messi, are here in PSG.

Ramos and Messi had been in fierce competition for over a decade now, playing for Real Madrid and Barcelona in El Classico contests. Nobody ever imagined that one day providence will bring the two combatants together in one club.

Who will be the new Lord in Paris? Will Neymar handover his crown and lordship to his good friend Messi? He willingly wanted to handover his number 10 jersey to Messi at his arrival in Paris, but Messi humbly refused.

The point is Neymar, Messi and Ramos are so used to others bowing for them. Pochettino main duty may not be tactical approach to the games, these players knows it all. But his duty will be how to manage the egos of this "larger than life" players to forge a formidable team.

Indeed, the question may be, Neymar, Messi or Ramos, who becomes the new Lord of Paris? If the power tussle ever erupts, it may greatly work against the team.
