FIFA U20 World Cup: Flying Eagles of Nigeria Arrives In Mendoza Ahead of Sunday’s Opening Game

 


After a 10-day training camp in Buenos Aires, Nigeria have arrived in Mendoza, the venue of their first two Group D matches of the 2023 U20 World Cup in Argentina.


While in Buenos Aires,Ladan Bosso’s team played two tune-up matches. They came from behind to beat Argentine second division side Club Almirante Brown won 3-2 and also came from behind to draw 3-3 against the Colombia U20 team on Tuesday.


Those matches were meant to put the team in top shape for the tournament, where they will start their campaign in Group D, which also houses Brazil, Italy, and the Dominican Republic.


The Flying Eagles are expected to make a winning start to their campaign against the Dominican Republic on May 21 at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, where they will take on Italy for their second group match three days later and round off their preliminary assignments against Brazil at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas on May 27.


This is Nigeria’s 13th appearance in the competition since making their debut at the 1983 edition in Mexico.


They have twice played in the final in 1989 and 2009, finished third on one occasion, and reached the quarterfinals three times in 1999, 2007 and 2011.
