Having
previewed the Iranian national team in the previous page let me go on to look
at Super Eagles next opponents.
Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team
The Bosnia
national team was the biggest surprise in Europe’s world cup qualifiers. The Zmajevi (Dragons) scored
a total of 26 goals more than any team in Europe.
Bosnia have
real stars that can do some major damage in their first ever world cup. And I think
this young nation of only 21 years Independence could be the biggest revelation
in Brazil.
Coach Safet Susic |
The ex-PSG legendary
star player, Coach Safet Susic have been able to build a team of great quality
with a generation of players that have been together for some time and now,
everything is clicking.
He has transformed
the team to a BiH (abbreviation for a mid level European team now ranked among
the top 20 in the world).
Key Strength of the Team: Great teamwork, the team play a very
attractive free flowing attacking football, anchored on playmaker zvjezdan
Musimovic. He’s the man that’s always pulling the string for the Bosnian side.
Vedad Ibisevic and Edwin Dzeko |
Then, the
deadly strike partnership between Edwin Dzeko and Vedad Ibisevic can take on
any defense. The duo had scored 18 goals between them in the qualifiers. Dzeko
scored 10 goals and Ibisevic 8.
Star Players: Manchester City star, Edwin Dzeko is
the biggest name in the team. He’s getting all the headline with his strike
partner, Vedad Ibisevic. Then, is the EPL top 5 goalkeeper, Asmir Bengovic of
Stroke City, and indeed, Guizhou Renhe FC midfielder, Zevjezdan Misimovic.
Coach Susic Comments about Nigeria: “West African teams play a very
complex brand of football and you can’t easily predict what a team like Nigeria
could do. But I think we have the quality to override their complexity.
My Verdict:
Bosnia maybe the most difficult team Nigeria would have to play in the group
stage of the world cup. The outcome of this game may determine if Nigeria will
progress to the next stage or not.

Argentine National Team
The
Argentine national team will always be among the favorites to win any world
cup. The country has won FIFA World cup twice – Argentina 1978 and Mexico 1986.
Argentina has also won FIFA (U20) World cup in Japan 1997 and the Olympics men
soccer Gold Medal in Athens 2008.
The current
team has one of the greatest football players of all time, Lionel Messi. It
also has the veteran coach Alejandro Sabella.
Coach Alejandro Sabella |
Sabella have
been able to build a more compact team after he took over from Diego Maradona
in 2010. The ‘La
Albiceleste’ seems to be getting it right this time around and many football followers
believe this is the chance for Messi to crown his glory with a World cup trophy.
Key Strength of the Team: The team plays a typical South
American ‘tip-tap’ and a blend of European quick breaks. This may be due to the
current fast attackers in the team. Argentina has what you may call the most
devouring strike force – a combination of some very experienced attackers –
Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Angel Di Maria, Javier Maschirano… These are stars of world reckoning, playing
top flight football with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus.
Carlos Tevez and Lionel Messi |
Coach Sabella Comments about Nigeria: Nigeria is an old foe. We always had
to play them in most World tournaments like FIFA World cup. A typical Nigerian
team is full of surprises and can upset any team in the world on its good day.
Nigeria play a brand of South American style blend with African physical play.
I can tell you, the character of most Nigerian teams is still a mystery to the
world of football.
My Verdict: As we all know, if Super Eagles must
qualify, it would have gotten its 6 points from Iran and Bosnia. With
Argentina, anything can happen.
