MOST WANTED: All Eyes on Ahmed Musa, the Nigeria Rising Star

Today, there will be millions of conversation floating over fences in the backyard of Jos, on the streets and in the market places and what will they be talking about? Ahmed Musa! What the young lad has become in such a short time.

About 5pm yesterday evening, around the Sabo-gari area of Kano, I heard the loudest shout of my life. As many more people began to run to join the already large crowd gathered at the different spots, watching television. What’s the news? I asked. Has Boko Haram hit another target? No Isa replied; it’s Ahmed Musa… What about him?

And just as early as 7am this morning, the young lads are gathered again. This time at every vendor’s stand, they are asking for Complete Sports newspapers. In the front page is the photograph of Ahmed Musa in Nigeria national color. The football fans were describing and analyzing how Ahmed Musa scored the third goal for the Nigeria national under 23 Olympic team in the match against Tanzania.

After the match, the press,  both local and international, was pressing on him to get a word. And typical of Ahmed’s humorous nature, he said “We’re going to bomb down Ghana next.” And everyone bust out laughing. That’s Ahmed for you. Scouts, Agents and managers are just hovering around him these days. One of them was able to pass his business card to him. “Call me Ahmed; I’ve a good deal for you…” Well, he’s not the only one. Tottenham Hotspur scouts have been on his trail. They want to possibly land Ahmed a deal with English Premier League Club this summer.
Record Breaker
No coach or manager could ignore the VVV.Venlo lightning fast winger, who has a nag for scoring goals. Ahmed holds the single record of being the only player in Nigeria that is presently playing for the national under 20, under 23, and the Super Eagles at the same year. And who can blame the coaches, if you’ve the privilege of such player as Ahmed, who is a match winner, you’ll do all you can to include him in your team. Coach Obuh, Eguavoen, Siasia have resolved to switching him into their team at different times.

Come to think of it, Ahmed is just 18 years old, born in October 14, 1992 in Jos.  He has already broken the record of the highest goal scorer ever in Nigeria premier league (NPL) in 2009, when he scored 20 goals for Kano Pillars to break Ishaya Ijatu’s 18 goals record.
He’s listed among the 140 best players in the world by International Federation of Football History (IFFHS). He is also listed among the 100 players to watch out for in 2011 by FIFA.

Ahmed Musa’s incredible football skill has taken him to a quick limelight. In just 2008, he started his career with Aminichi Football Academy in Jos and in that same year, he was loaned to JUTH FC. Again in early 2009, he was loaned to Kano Pillars. Today, he plays for VVV.Venlo in Netherlands. Who knows, perhaps, before the end of the summer transfer window, he may be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur in the EPL. Watch out for this incredible football genius!
