9 Times Africa's Champion: Super Falcons Quality Put to Maximum Test In AWCON 2018 Victory

Super Falcons have been crowned the ninth AWCON title following a 4-3 win over South Africa through penalty shoot out in a most entertaining finals

There were no goals during regulation time as Banyana Banyana matched Super Falcons strength for strength all through 120 minutes of a very intensive contest.

Asisat Oshoala missed an 83rd minute penalty that extended game into extra time, but that did not stop the Nigerian ladies from being victorious as goalkeeper Tochukwu saved the last kick taken by South Africa, after both teams had missed one penalty kick each.

Super Falcons dominance was put to full test as they also played 120 minutes and penalty shoot out before they could overcome lioness of Cameroon at the Semi finals. Perhaps, by sheer luck, some school of thought may say or confidence built from their past experience may have given them the needed impetus to overcome both South Africa and Cameroon.

But one lesson everyone should take away from AWCON 2018 is, it will no longer be ohoro for the Nigerian teams. Women football are developing in other countries of Africa and fast catching up with Nigeria.

Many commentors are also of the opinion that poor preparation and lack of hunger for the title they have won several times, maybe responsible for Super Falcons ineptitude.

However it may, Nigeria have bag in their ninth AWCON title and extend their reign as Africa's Champions. Congratulations girls!
