5 Major Football Competitions Nigeria Will Be Gunning for Glory This Year 2019


Happy New year to all our visitors. 2019 promise to be an exciting year for Nigeria football fans and we felt we should help you mark your calendar.

Apart from the usual Nigeria league season schedules and fixtures of continental engagements...Lobi Stars in CAF Champions league and Enugu Rangers in CAF cup, Nigeria national teams of various cedar will be gunning for glory in five major competitions this year:

1. [February 2 - February 17] 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations: The Flying Eagles stage a return to the African Youth Championship this year after missing out of the last edition won by Zambia.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group A of 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria
Burundi
The tourney starts on February 2 and ends February 17.

Paul Aigbogun's men will join seven other teams to battle for the ultimate prize and also try to pick a ticket for the 2020 edition of the FIFA U20 tournament. The Flying Eagles are the most successful team in the tournament - winning seven titles 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011, 2015.

2. [April 14 - Apil 28] 2019 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations: Nigeria join seven other African teams for this year's edition of the cadet championship in Tanzania from April 14 to 28. The Golden Eagles, who are one of the most successful teams in the history of the tournament with two titles were missing in the last edition.

Meanwhile, they have been grouped alongside host country, Tanzania, Angola and Uganda with two teams expected to qualify for the semi finals at the end of the group stage. However, the four finalists will also automatically qualify for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup schedule to hold in Peru from October 5 to 27 this year.

3. [June 7 - July 7] 2019 FIFA Women World Cup: The Super Falcons qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup staging in France between June 7 to July 7, 2019.

Thomas Dennerby's ladies were crowned African champions in December, 2018 following their victory over South Africa in the final of the tournament. They will be representing Africa along with the Banyana Banyana and Cameroon at the when the championship starts this summer.

4.  [June 2019] Africa Cup of Nation: The Super Eagles progressed to the first ever African Cup of Nations in five years to be staged in the summer with one match to spare.

And they will be gunning for their fourth silverware at the continental level having won three titles in their past appearances.


5. [November 2019] FIFA Beach soccer: The Super Sand Eagles were superb in their qualification for the world championship in Paraguay in November 2019.

Despite their lack of preparations for the African Beach Soccer championship late last year in Egypt, they got to the final and lost to the champions Senegal 6-1 in the final of the tourney.
