NPFL Group Champions Playoff - What A Delight!
Sport Marketing expert, Benson Chukwueke, explores the potentials and the possible commercial benefits of NPFL Group Champions Play-off, if well packaged. He unveils what LMC can make of such innovative tournament.
What is the right title of the tournament? Is it NPFL Groups Champions Play Off or NPFL Super Six? Or would LMC give it a substantive brand name just like the Super Bowl.
Come to think of it, when I look at the NPFL Groups Champions Play off with the eyes of a Sport Marketer, I see the Super Bowl. And I am tempted to recommend that the League Management Company (LMC) maintain this abridged league structure with two groups, which allows the first three teams in each group to qualify for the Super six... I mean Groups champions play off.
The abridged league structure will be a less stressful season, with fewer matches and teams wouldn't have to expense more traveling all year long. Considering the fact that the year budget of most of the teams are so lean.-..they could hardly afford to make as many travels across the country.
Then talking about the play offs, it could be packaged in such a way, it could become spectators and corporate brands delight.
Imagine the teams that qualified for this season NPFL Groups Champions play-off: Akwa United, Enugu Rangers, Enyimba, IfeanyiUbah, Lobi Stars, Kano Pillars. They are the best teams in the country today and the Super Six tournament promises to be very competitve and a delight to watch.
Three of these six teams: Enugu Rangers, Kano Pillars and Enyimba are clubs that perhaps has the largest followership and fan base in the country. So if the tournament is packaged so well, fans can travel from across the country to come and see this play-off spectacle.
We expect fans to throng the Agege stadium in the following days
And once the NPFL Groups Champions Playoff begin to attract large crowd and media interest, then corporate brands will fall heels over themselves to partner with the tournament
Star Lager beer and 1xbet are already associate sponsors of NPFL and are enjoying such free media publication. We expect more brands to come on board if LMC decides to continue with this league structure.
