The Scandal: Paul Aigbogun's Flying Eagles An Embarrassment to Nigeria

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have come out to defend Flying Eagles Head Coach, Paul Aigbogun on the scandal making rounds on social media...allegations of player bribery, extortion and infighting among the technical crew of the Flying Eagles...but the hand writing is all on the wall.

Bloggers may be accused of publishing not very accurate news, but there isn't any smoke without fire!

Flying eagles performances that saw them crash out in the round of sixteen, were so embarrassing to Nigerians. Despite the training camp in Germany and all the preparations the squad turn out to play like a bunch of confused folks... The players played as if they were strangers to each other, people just playing together for the first time. This was a clear indication that something definitely went wrong with the team.

There wasn't any sign of coaching imput: no pattern, no tactical approach... The flying eagles played as if the coaches just gathered  eleven strange players and thrust them into the pitch to play.

The sheer determination of the boys running hectare scatter on the pitch couldn't take them any further. They were grossly outplayed by most teams they encountered during the competition. Most Nigerian fans felt embarrassed watching this set of flying  eagles on the world stage. For a footballing nation like Nigeria, it is not acceptable at all.

Out of vexation, one of the fans demanded that Mr. Aigbogun and his coaching crew return every kobo they received as remuneration for  the job; because they did nothing! And I completely agree with him.

Either Aigbogun lack the capacity to coach at this level or such alleged criminal extortions took toll on his team. That again, indict NFF and their procedure for selecting national team coaches, or imposing players on them.

We all know the way Nigerians love football. It is one sport that give so many joy and explores the unity of our country. Nobody should be allowed to toy with the heart of the people for personal selfish interest.

Allegation of bribery, extortions and imposition (forcing) of players on the coaches isn't new in Nigeria national camp and team selection...it is time NFF begin to address this malady.
