Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr said that Nigeria doesn't have such outstanding player you can call a star like during the time of Nwankwo Kanu, JayJay Okocha, Victor Ikpeba, Emmanuel Amuneke, Rasheed Yekini, Sunday Oliseh, Daniel Amokachie... when Nigeria had avalanche of football stars playing in top flight teams accross the world.
Though, many analysts may agree with the statement of the German tactician, but that may not be entirely true.
1. Winfred Ndidi could be seen as one of Nigeria's biggest stars at the moment, having been named the best defensive midfielder in the world's most popular league, the Premier league, since 2018. And statistics has also shown Ndidi is the best ball winner in the world today...Intercepting over 1586 balls in the Premier league 2018/19 season.
Ndidi has been a stalwart in the middle of the pack, both for his club Leicester city and for the Nigeria national team - Super Eagles. While today Leicester city is third on Premier league table, favorably competing for the season''s title, Ndidi has also led Nigeria national team to a third place in African cup of nation 2019.
2. Odion Ighalo's loan signing in one of the world's most popular clubs, Manchester United, put him in reckoning once again.
Ighalo was Africa Cup of Nations Top Scorer: 2019 and led National team to third place and also named team of the tournament.
Ighalo has recently been the second top scorer in the Chinese Super League, and his team Shanghai Shenhua won the FA cup in 2019, which may have led to his loan deal with Manchester united.
Ighalo was also CSL top scorer in 2018, while he played for Shanghai Greenland Shenhu. He also won Premier League Player of the Month: December 2015, while playing for Watford. But is he Nigeria biggest football star?
For me, Nigeria biggest star of the moment isn't a male player. She is the Super zee, Asisat Oshoala!
3. Asisat Oshoala has won everything women football has to offer, apart from not yet Fifa women footballer
of the year award.
Oshoala has won African women footballer of the year four times going: 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019. She also won BBC World's women footballer of the year award in 2015. Before then, she has been named Queen of The Pitch 2014. She also won Aiteo CAF Best Player Award 2017(Female Category)
Oshoala has played for some of the best women teams in the world: FCBarcelona Spain, Dalian Quanija in China, Arsenal and Liverpool in England. She is perhaps, the most known Nigerian football star in the world today.
Right, I know you may have a different opinion, then comment in the box below. Let's know your Nigeria biggest football star of the moment in 2020.
Yes quite agree with you, but in my own opinion she isn't the most decorated Nigerian player in the world today. She is the most decorated Nigerian player of all time.she is indeed the best footballer Nigeria has ever produced. Kudos to her doing us proud by keeping her head calm in spite of accolade nd achievements. I love u Assisat..
