Since Africa's queen of the pitch and four times Caf women footballer of the year award winner, Assisat Oshoala arrived FC Barcelona Femeni in 2019, she has taken the Spanish Primera Iberdrola (Women version of La liga) by storm and opened the door way for fellow Nigerian ladies into some of the top flight women clubs in Spain.
Well, it wasn't Oshoala that first landed in the primera, it was Francesca Ordega who came on loan from Sydeny FC to Atletico Madrid in 2017/ 18 Primera season, that showcase a glimpse of what these Nigerian ladies can do.
Perhaps, realizing how these Nigerian women footballers can be skillful and tenacious in their approach to the game, Real Madrid ladies has gone on to sign Rita Chikwelu in 2019 and Sevilla recently signed Uchenna Kanu in January 2020. These three Nigerian ladies are making great waves that has set the Premiera on fire.
1 Assisat Oshoala - FC Barcelona Femeni
Asisat Oshoala was in blistering form, scoring two goals, as she inspired Barcelona to a 10-1 victory against Real Sociedad in Spanish Women's Super Cup final.
Oshoala also netted the winner in her side's 3-2 triumph over Atletico Madrid in the semi-final of the competition. And before tgen, on January 11, 2020, Oshoala scored four goals on 6-0 win against CD Tacon,
Since Oshoala arrived in Barcelona 2019, she has turn around the fortune of the team. She scored the only goal when Lyon defeated Barcelona in Uefa Champions league final in 2019, that performance led to her signing a full deal with the Femeni.
Matt Beard called her "one of the best players in the world today and she has set the Spanish primera on fire.
2. Rita Chikwelu - Real Madrid DFF
Super Falcons midfielder Rita Chikwelu continued her impressive start to her career in the Spanish women’s top flight – Primera Iberdrola, as she bagged a brace for Madrid Ladies in their 3-1 away win against Espanyol on Sunday.
Chikwelu opened her goals account for Madrid last Sunday after scoring one of the goals to help the Madrid Ladies win 4-1 at home against Athletic Bilbao.
And her performances has led the madrid out of the relegation zone... now placed 11th in the 16team Primera Iberdrola,
3 Uchenna Kanu. Sevilla Ladies
After winning US Women player of the year 2019, the Super Falcons star Uchenna Kanu signed for Sevilla Ladies to make the third Nigerian ladies pulling their weight in the Spanish Primera Iberdrola,
Though, Kanu was introduced in the last 30 minutes. as Sevilla lost to Barcelona 3 - 0, she began a thorn in the flesh of Barcelona defenders within the time and got three shorts on target. She was unlucky not to have scored in her debut. But her performance gave glimpse of what she can do in the coming weeks.
