Golden Eaglets: Nigeria U17 Open Screening 2020/21 - What Coach Fatai Amao Decided to Do

FAQ: When will Eaglets Screening Exercise Start?

I have been bombarded with this question for the last two weeks or so, by thousands of  aspiring youngsters across Nigeria. And I decided to give you some updates here. At least, what I gathered.

The Golden Eaglets has already open training camp since November 1 to start preparation for the U17 AFCON qualifiers starting in December 2020

The camp wasn't thrown open for all comers screening exercise as planned before. We gathered there will not be an open screening rather the coaches has compiled a list of 80 players because of the short time the team have before the zonal U17 AFCON qualifiers in Benin from December 5.

The coaches led by Fatai Amoo has already conducted some kind of open screening exercises across the country in Lagos, Kano, Ibadan, Kaduna and has compiled a list of players for final selection. We even gathered the numbers has been reduced to 45 players at the moment.

Whether Amao will later conduct another open screening,  will depend on what happened during the qualifiers

The U17 AFCON qualifiers will kick off on December 5 in Benin Republic with Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Burkina Faso all expected to feature.

The top two teams from this qualifying series will qualify for the U17 AFCON slated for Morocco next year.

Five-time world champions Nigeria finished third at last year’s AFCON in Tanzania to qualify for the U17 World Cup in Brazil.
