Nigeria Vs Lesotho: The Disagreement to Host the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos

Nigeria will host Lesotho in a final AFCON qualifier on March 30 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, 10 years since they played there against Sierra Leone.

Amaju Pinnick, President NFF

"Teslim Balogun Stadium is in good shape now to host Super Eagles. Lagos is home to football and to the national team for a long while. A state that has over four standard stadiums and has hosted several world class matches in the past. Lagos has the facilities as well as the capacity to host the match against Lesotho. " NFF President insisted during a chat with Channels tv  Sports morning.

"When the Eagles beat Sierra Leone 2-1 in 2011 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium it was on an artificial pitch, but the venue now boasts of a lush natural grass pitch.

Moreover, for logistics reason, Super Eagles will be playing Benin Republic five days after. And it takes just about 1 hour or so, from Lagos to Cotonu, the team can travel by road.

Gernot Rohr , Chief Coach of Super Eagles

Coach Gernot Rohr has now said his players would have preferred the game was played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where they have played most of the home games for the past four years.

“The second game (vs Lesotho), we will do it in Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos,” Rohr told ESPN.

“But my players they like Uyo because of the facilities at the stadium.”
