Rivers United chief coach Fatai Osho has charged Nigeria Professional League (NPFL) leading scorer Ishaq Kayode to maintain his current form, adding that the former Remo Stars striker is a ‘potential national team’ player.
Kayode has netted four times in just three matches, including the winner as Rivers United shocked Enyimba 1-0 in Aba in a Match Day 3 NPFL encounter on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old forward also grabbed a brace as Stanley Eguma’s men thrashed Katsina United 3-0 on Sunday and netted in his side’s 1-1 draw at Lobi Stars on the opening weekend of the season.
Reacting to Kayode’s impressive form, the former Enyimba coach Osho disclosed that the ex-Golden Eaglets star has attracted offers from different ‘African countries and beyond’, while hoping that his goal-scoring prowess will help Rivers United get results.
“Those who were at the continent knew quite well what he (Ishaq Kayode) is fond of,” Osho said. “He is somebody that a lot of African teams and beyond are looking for right now.
“And we are talking to him, he has to keep it that way. He is a potential national team player. Anybody can take that to the bank. He mustn’t just get carried away.
“That’s what you do when you have a young player coming up like that, doing very well. (He has) tactical discipline, a lot of talent in him. And when you have such individual brilliance, you must put it in great use for your team to get results.”
