Reports from inside grass house may have revealed that Emmanuel Amunike will be part of the Super Eagles new coaching arrangement, after agreeing to work with Austine Eguavoen and Salisu Yusuf who were in charge of the team for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Amuneke will however not be among the coaches on the bench per what we gathered. His role will be more like a technical assistant to the team and will constantly communicate with them during games but Eguavoen will still be the head of the crew.
In an effort to put in place all Nigeria's coaching and technical arsenal to ensure Super Eagles qualifies for FIFA World Cup in Qatar, NFF is doing some serious re-organization.
Already the football house has rescinded from the plan of engaging Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro who was initially billed to take over after the Africa Cup of Nations per the announcement by the NFF before the start of AFCON. They (NFF) realized that such move may be counter productive at such timing as this.
Austin Eguavoen should be the best choice having worked with the boys in AFCON as there's no time or room for experimentation now.
However, NFF also realized that Eguavoen needs some technical assistance after Nigeria’s round of 16 exit at the AFCON, and have decided to add Amunike to the crew who have been given the mandate to qualify Nigeria for the World Cup in Qatar.
Emmanuel Amunike, one of the best technically inclined coach in Nigeria, has agreed to join the technical crew of the senior national team of Nigeria ahead of the two legged World Cup playoff against Ghana.
Amunike coached the Nigeria national U17 football team to win the World Cup in 2015. He was also the coach of Tanzania national football team to broke the 34 years jinx of not playing at the Africa Cup of nations.
Amunike has a UEFA grade A coaching license and was a member of FIFA technical Study Group in the 2018 World Cup in Brazil. He also worked with CAF - TSG both in 2019 and 2021. And I could unequivocally say he is the most technically sound coach in Nigeria today.
Moreover, Amunike is also the foundational coach of some of the boys in the national team now: Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Nwakali, Uzoho, and even Kelechi Iheanacho... So he knows how to deploy them for best performances.
Our source also reveals that an official announcement will likely be made on Tuesday. Same day that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will confirm the retention of Austine Eguavoen as coach of the team for the games against Ghana in March.
