Francis Uzoho has broken his silence in the aftermath of Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup after a 1-1 draw with regional rivals Ghana at the National Stadium in Abuja, Tuesday, March 2022.
It was thought that the Omonia Nicosia glovesman had launched a challenge on the Nigeria number one spot after his impressive performance in the first leg clash at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, only for him to make a costly error that ultimately eliminated the Super Eagles.
Eleven minutes into the contest at the MKO Abiola Stadium, a shot from Arsenal's Ghana captain Thomas Partey squirmed under the body of Uzoho and went into the net.
Uzoho has blamed himself for Nigeria not qualifying for the mundial and has vowed to atone for his error in subsequent matches.
Writing on Instagram, the 2013 U17 World Cup winner said : "This past couple of days has been the worst in my lifetime.
"I wanted to take my nation to Qatar but rather did the opposite. I know what football means to you all and to myself, I can’t promise not to make mistakes again but i can promise not to give up until i bring back that smile on your faces.
"Thank you for the support and God bless".
Uzoho has three appearances under his belt at the World Cup, having gone the distance in all the group matches played by the Super Eagles during the 2018 tournament in Russia.
