Golden Eaglets Win U17 WAFU B CUP - Defeated Burkinabes in the Final

The Golden Eaglets defeated the Burkinabes 2 - 1 to win U17 WAFU Cup and qualify for the 2023 African U-17 championship

The Nigerians came out smoking against the Burkinabes in the first half as they piled the pressure early on.

Attacker, Abubakar Abdullahi scored in the 22nd minute to give the team a deserved lead.

The Burkinabes drew themselves back in the game courtesy of Ouedraogo’s 42nd minute equaliser to put pressure on the Nigerian boys.

The second period was a slight deviation from the first as both teams gave the game their all and played for pride and power. The Nigerians controlled in key areas of the pitch and defended resolutely for large periods but Burkina Faso pushed better than they did in the first half.

Abdullahi scored from an inch-perfect Emmanuel Michael cross in the second half to give the Nigerians a lead. Burkina Faso pushed for an equaliser and proved to be major threats from the wings especially.

They however met a solid defence and midfield and also gave a good account of themselves.

Nigeria and Burkina Faso will represent West Africa Zone B at the African U-17 championship in Algeria next year.

Nigeria has now completed a double at the WAFU Zone B with the U-20 also winning the tournament last month in Niger Republic.
