After just two matches Nigeria's world Cup qualification is already in jeopardy. Following the 1-1 draw Super Eagles secured against Zimbabwe Sunday afternoon in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match.
Nigerian fans have cried loud and clear that the Eagles’s World Cup qualification is in danger and called on Nigeria Football Federation NFF to sack Coach Jose Paseiro with immediate effect for his inability to meet the expectations of soccer loving Nigerians.
The lacklustre performance and lack of coherence in the two games played has shown Super Eagles are likely not to qualify for the world cup, if urgent intervention to change the tide is not taken immediately. Nigeria have two points in two matches in their group which gives football fans in the country a serious concern. With due respect, Lesotho and Zimbabwe may be the weakest teams Nigeria would encounter in the group and they have missed the opportunity to gain some points ahead.
Some of the fans who expressed their disappointment after the match said Eagles qualifications is in danger after securiing another draw saying that if they continue with this lacklustre performance, they should forget about next World Cup.
Habeeb Bidemi in his reaction on social media said he was disappointed with the result and performance of Eagles saying that it would be a disaster if Nigeria fail to qualify for the next World Cup
“It’s so disappointing and funny seeing Nigeria Super Eagles playing draw against Zimbabwe and conceding more yellow card. It would be a great disaster and catastrophe if we didn’t qualify for the next World Cup.
“I doubt if we are going to qualify with the way we started. We lost four points, lost in a possible six points. Never expect the new NFF leadership to continue with Peseiro. He has nothing to offer us,” he said.
Hassan Odunayo Ruth said with the abysmal performance of Eagles in today’s match, NFF should fire Paseiro
“If NFF are really serious about the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro should be on his way to Portugal and never return,” she said.
Uzor Odigbo lamented how Eagles lost four points out of two matches. He said if Eagles could not beat Zimbabwe, they are not worthy to represent Africa in the next World Cup.
Solace Chukwu wrote on his X handle "Men and brethren, with a heavy heart, I proclaim to you that, on this evidence, @NGSuperEagles will not be "doing it again" come January [at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations]. More crippling than the lack of midfielders is a lack of active grey matter on the bench. Tragic.”
After the two games, it was clear to the average Nigerian fan that there was nothing coming from the bench, no wisdom, no pattern, no game plan or tactics. It was like the coach just chosed 11 players and threw them into the pitch with no direction or any formation or strategy. We can't be wasting Nigerians tax-payers money on Peseiro.
Nigeria is set to compete against Ivory Coast in only a few months, but the general sentiment, especially after the failure against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, is that the trip to Abidjan would be waste, given the current state of the national team.
In Conclusion, Nigerian football fans do not believe this Super Eagles team can win AFCON or qualify for the World Cup after struggling against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. that's tragic!
