It was Nigeria's night at far away Morocco where the CAF Awards gala was held in Marrakesh on Monday night. Below are the breakdown of how Nigeria players shined like million stars.
1. CAF African Player of the Year 2023
Winner: Victor Osimhen
Super Eagles and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen has been crowned the 2023 CAF African Player of the Year.
Osimhen becomes the first Nigerian to win the coveted prize since Nwankwo Kanu won it in 1999.
2. CAF African women Player of the Year
Winner: Asisat Oshoala
Asisat Oshoala, Super Falcon striker, has been crowned 2023 CAF Women’s ‘Player of the Year.’
The 29-year-old was announced the winner of the gong in the gala held in Marrakesh, Morocco, on Monday.
The triumph is Oshoala’s sixth time winning the award, pulling clear as the footballer with the most wins.
3. CAF Best African Women Goalkeeper of the Year
Winner: Chiamaka Nnadozie
Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has been crowned the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for 2023 on Monday night.
The Paris FC of France shot-stopper beat fellow goalkeepers in the form of Moroccan shot-stopper Khadija El-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Olaminii
The award is a reward for her heroics in the Women’s World Cup New Zealand and Australia finishing the tournament with three clean sheets.
4. CAF Best African Women National Team of the Year
Winner: Super Falcons of Nigeria
The Nigerian female football team, Super Falcons, has won the 2023 Confederation of African Football award for the National Team of the Year.
The year’s award came off the back of an impressive showing at the World Cup earlier in the year.
5. CAF Women Best XI
While Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Anozie and Osinachi Ohale made the CAF women Best XI, it was rather strange that Chiamaka Nnadozie, who won the best goalkeeper of the year wasn't selected in the team.
The CAF FIFAPro Best XI, according to report was selected by only players & they made their choices.
The Reason Best GoalKeepers in women & men's categories, Chiamaka & Bounou weren't selected by the players.
Something rather a strange reason, while five South African Bayana Bayana players made the Best XI and yet Super Falcons won the National team of the Year.
6. CAF Men Best XI
Victor Osimhen was the only Nigerian player that made CAf Men Best XI.
