Bad Weathers within Nigeria's National team Camp | Signs of New Super Eagles to Emerge By 2016
The biggest Nigerian footballer today, John Mikel
Obi, sit intermittently on the reserve bench of Chelsea FC in England and
hardly get enough playing time. It is
the same with key players like Victor Moses, Eddy Onazi, Kenneth Omeruo, Efe
Ambrose, and Godfrey Obobona… are all bench warmers in their respective clubs.
At the local scene here in Nigeria, no club was able
to hold its own at African continental competitions. Glo Premier League
winners, Kano Pillars as well as League runners up and FA Cup champions,
Eynimba international, were easily eliminated at the 2015 CAF Champions League.
Majority members of NFF technical committee are of the
view that Stephen Keshi , Nigeria National team Head Coach (who just renewed
his contract), doesn’t possess the technical know-how to pilot the Super Eagles
to its next destination. Key members of the technical committee such as Paul
Bassey, Garba Lawal, Shaibu Amodu and indeed, NFF President himself had at one
time called for Keshi’s sack, but the government that be re-instated him.
This may be part of the reasons why Super Eagles
team is in a comatose state today. We don’t have both quality players and
coaching staff to lift up the team and get it flying again.
Sign of a New Super Eagles Emerging in 2016
Following the strategic graduation of 2013 Golden
Eaglets players that won FIFA U16 world cup into the Flying Eagles, some
analysts are saying that these crop of enterprising young players will
eventually form the bulk of the new Super Eagles, which is likely to emerge by
2016.
Nigerian fans expects these crop of players, which presently
make up the Flying Eagles team, to conquer the world at FIFA U20 World cup in
New Zealand this May ending. After then, they will move over to Samson Siasia’s
tutored Dream team for the Olympic Games at Rio de’Janeiro in 2016. And finally
emerge as Super Eagles players afterward.
The question that remains to be answered is if this new
crop players’ progress as expected, will Keshi inherit them into the Super
Eagles team or will great technocrat like Manu Garba graduate with the boys. Or
will it eventually be Samson Siasia or a Foreign Coach. But let us watch as we
see thing unfold in the following months.
