Since his recovery from injury and return to form,
Enyimba Star Striker Mfon Udoh has challenged to take back his place as the
most prolific striker in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
But while in the dull-drum, arise another youngster
Chisom Chikatara who plays for Abiia Warriors. And the young star has quickly
stamped his foot with some incredible performances both in the league and at
the national team level. Today, he gets all the call-ups to big games. But come
to think of it, between Udoh or
Chikatara, who do you think is the most prolific striker in the Nigerian elite
league.
Let us analyze their style of play and perhaps,
their achievement so far and their current form.
Mfon Udoh (Age 24) has been described as a complete
forward who possesses pace, good positioning, natural finishing as well as the
ability to provide assist.
He is a “fox in the box’ kind of player, and very
difficult to stop once in the penalty area. He imposes himself on the defenders
on the run of play, but doesn’t really possess that physiic to bully players
like Daniel Omokachie.
Udoh popularly called “Goal machine” currently holds
the all time record for highest number of goals scored in the Nigerian
Professional Football league in a single season with 23 goals. He has netted 43
league goals In the last three season, more than any other player in the
period.
Udoh has won several individual awards as NPFL top
scorer, League Bloggers Award, and several Player of the Month Awards. However,
Udoh hasn’t enjoyed many call-ups to the Nigerian National team. He only played
one International Friendly match again Ghana in 2014.
Recently, Udoh have been in a splitting form this
season, scoring a brace in the CAF Champions league between Enyimba Vs Vita’O and already netted 3goals in four
games.
On the other hand…..
Chisom
Chikatara (Age 21) is a quick and agile right footed striker, with very
outstanding pace, mobility and such striking power that baffles even the sturdiest
manager. Chikatara is very sleekly his style of play and can easily sneak
behind defenders to do the damage. Very
vicious and dangerous just like the former Italian International Filipo
Inzaghi.
Chikatara popularly called “Super S” (which means
Super Striker), maybe fondly remembered for his
hat-trick at CHAN game Nigeria Vs Niger and his goal against Tunisia in
the same tournament.
Chikatara have been improving consistently – he was
the highest goal scorer at Nigeria National league (NNL) in 2012/13 season,
that led to the promotion of Abia Warriors to NPFL.. He was also rated as the
best player in the lower league. He became the third highest goal scorer in NPFL
2014/15 season with 14 goals. He has already scored 4 goals in seven games in
the on-going season.
Let us have your own comments for these two
enterprising strikers in the Nigerian league.- Which one is better and which do
you prefer for the national team.
