Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa and 2018 Nigeria Player of the Year Award
I guess if
we start voting now, Alex Iwobi may get all the votes. He is currently the only
Nigerian player in a top flight club turning out five star performances week in
- week out of this new Premier league season. And he has assumed a more crucial
responsibility as a play-maker for the Nigerian national team since John Mikel
Obi has been absent from the team and Victor Moses sudden retirement from
International engagements.
Alex Iwobi
has driven Super Eagles to win the double header against Libya and a home win
against Seychelles in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers and we are hoping he will do
more before the year draws to a close.
But at the
beginning of the year, It was all about Victor Moses playing a vital role while
Chelsea struggled for survival although last season. Victor Moses was also
Super Eagles talisman building up to 2018 world cup. For anyone who could
really throw back to early this year, Victor Moses will be his man.
Victor
Moses who came from a successful win 2016/17 season with Chelsea and some
incredible performances for Super Eagles World Cup qualifiers that saw Nigeria
qualify in grand style.
Victor Moses has already won NFF Player of tge Year 2018 Award.
Victor Moses has already won NFF Player of tge Year 2018 Award.
But then,
at World Cup proper Ahmed Musa rose up from a long slumber to steal the show.
Scored three crucial goals...two against Iceland, the only game Nigeria won,
and one against Argentina. Since then, Ahmed Musa have been firing from all
cylinder, taken over as Nigeria national team captain and playing the role of
torment-in-chief in recent games of AFCON qualifiers.
For people
who believe world cup is the biggest stage to showcase your prowess, then Ahmed
Musa may deserve voting for as Nigeria's player of the year.
I am aware
some people may have a different opinion from my submission here. They may look
towards the hardworking central defenders, ‘Nigerian Oyibos’: Lean Balogun or
William Troost-Ekong, or the indefatigable captain John Mikel Obi.
