Sports Education In Nigeria: Study Coaching and Sports Business Management Courses At NIS

National Institute for Sports - offers both coaching and sport business management courses. The institution is located at the National Stadium complex Abuja and the Former National Stadium Surulere Lagos.

Applications are requested from suitably qualified candidates in Nigeria and other English speaking countries for the underlisted courses at the Institute.

(A) SANDWICH COURSES:
Basic Coaching Certificate Course  (Duration 3 months)

Choice of Sports
Available sports for basic coaching programme are: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Karate, Kickboxing, Rugby Swimming, Table Tennis. Traditional Sports, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wrestling.

Entry Requirement;
Veteran athletes of riot less than 30 years of age with a minimum of 3 GCE O/L credits/merits or its equivalent including English and Mathematics and any other subject plus 2 years cognate experience.


B. REGULAR COURSES
(I) Sports Coaching
Advanced Certificate Coaching
Diploma Coaching
Higher Diploma Coaching

(II) Sports Management Courses:
Higher Diploma Sports Management
Diploma Stadium Management
Higher Diploma Stadium Management
Higher Diploma Sports Marketing
Admission Requirements
Candidates should satisfy the following requirements to qualify for any of the following courses in the institute:

Choice of Sports
Available sports for coaching courses for 2015/2016 Session are: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cycling. Darts, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Scrabble, Swimming, Table Tennis, Traditional Sport, Volleyball, Weight-Lifting, Wrestling and Wu-Shu-Kungfu.

A. Advanced Certificate in Coaching (12 Months)
S.S.C.E/G.C.E O/L or Teachers Grade II Certificate with a minimum of 5 credits or 5 Merits at a sitting or two (2) sittings In relevant subjects Including English and Mathematics.

Nigeria Army School of Physical Education (N A.S.P.E.) Certificate or equivalents with a minimum of Credit pass plus at least 5 OCE 0/Level Credits or its equivalent eta sitting or two (2) sittings in relevant subjects including
English and Mathematics with 2 years post qualification cognate experience.

City and Guilds with a minimum of Credit pass plus 5 GCE 0/Level Credits pass or its equivalent in relevant subjects including English and Mathematics with adequate skill and ability in chosen sports.

N.C.E. In non-Physical and Health Education courses with a minimum of Merit pass plus 5 GCE 0/Level Credits or its equivalent eta sitting or two (2) sittings in relevant subjects Including English and Mathematics.

B. Diploma in Coaching (24 Months)
NIS Advanced Coaching Certificate with at least a Merit pass plus2years post qualification coaching experience plus 50/Level GCE Credits or its equivalent at a sitting or two (2) sittings In relevant subjects including English and Mathematics.

N.C.E. in Physical and Health Education with Merit pass with 2 years cognate experience plus 5 GCE OlLevel Credits or its equivalent at a sitting or two (2) sittings in relevant subjects including English and Mathematics.

Diploma in Sports Coaching/Physical and Health Education from any recognized Institution with a Credit pass and 2 years post qualification experience or Merit with 2 years post qualification cognate experience.
A non Physical and Health Education Degree from any recognized Institution plus proven ability of candidate in chosen sport

C. Higher Diploma in Coaching 
(24 Months Course)
i. NIS Diploma in Coaching with a minimum of Merit plus 2years post qualification coaching experience.
(12 Months Course)
ii. A Degree in Physical and Health Education with a minimum of second-class honours lower division from any recognized Institution plus proven ability of candidate in chosen sport.


SPORTS MANAGEMENT COURSES
A. Higher Diploma in Sports Management (24 Months)
I. Non University Graduate in PHE with second class lower division, NIS Diploma with Credit pass, OND, NCE with Credit or equivalent plus 5 GCE O/L Credits at a sitting or two (2) sittings including English and Mathematics.(12 Months Course)

ii. A Degree in physical and Health Education, and other relevant fields with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division or relevant HND with a minimum of Lower Credit from any recognized Institution.

SPORTS MANAGEMENT COURSES
B. Diploma in Stadium Management (24months Course)
5 GCE 0/Level Credits or its equivalent at a sitting or two sittings or TC Ii with 5 Credits or Merits including English and Mathematics.
N,C.E. In Physical and Health Education with Merit pass plus 2 years cognate experience.
Diploma in Sports Coaching/Physical and Health Education from any recognized Institution with a minimum of Merit pass and 2 years post qualification experience or Merit with 2 years post qualification cognate experience.

C. Higher Diploma in Stadium Management(24 MONTHS COURSE)
NON-PHE Graduate with Second Class Honours Lower Division, NIS Diploma in Stadium Management with Credit pass, OND, NCE with Credit or its equivalent at a sitting or two (2) sittings including English and Mathematics.
A Degree in Physical and Health Education, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities with a minimum of Second Class Honours Lower Division from any recognized Institution.

SPORTS MARKETING COURSE
A. Higher Diploma in Sports Marketing (24 Months Course)
i. NIS Diploma in Sports Marketing with at least a Merit pass plus 5 years post qualification experience plus 5 GCE 0/Level Credits Its equivalent at a sitting or two (2) sittings including English and Mathematics.(12 MONTHS COURSE)

ii. A Degree in Physical and Health Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities with a minimum of Second Class Honours Lower Division from any recognized Institution.

Admission forms are available for sale at National institute for Sports, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos and Athlete Dev. Centre Package B, National Stadium, Abuja.
