Now We Know Who Will Win AFCON 2019
Watching the whole 24 teams play their opening matches, I can say almost with certainty who will win 2019 Afcon. Yeah, it may be too early to stick out ones neck and of course, football is the most unpredictable game you can think of. But, we can look at some indicators which confirm FIFA ranking of Senegal as the best team in Africa today.
Well, they haven't won African cup of nations before and that made it even the more reason to tip Senegal for the Cup. The west African team may not want to loss this opportunity, what you may call the peak of their football golden era.
In their first Group match, Senegal clearly outplayed the Tanzanian in every department. True, Tanzania may not be a real test of their strength. Of course, you can clearly see that the Terengha lions didn't expend much in discharging the East African team.
Senegal has the players, the might and motivation to be the next African champions and I will be greatly surprise if they fail to win.
The Favorites
Senegal is the favorite, no doubt! But the odds may favor host country Egypt. Five times winners with vast experience, especially on how to host and win.
Although, the Pharaohs were not that impressive and dominant in their first game against Zimbabwe, but you cannot say that the Egyptians haven't what it takes to up their game. They have the players - the antics of the game, the Experience - what it takes to host and win. They'The're better acclamatize to thr weather - the scourging heat from the sahara desert, They have the crowd, 80% of the over all spectators will be rooting for Egypt to win...
The Real Contenders
Super Eagles of Nigeria is the team to beat in this competition , The three times Afcon champions, has such an enterprising team with the true capability to contend with Egypt and Senegal for the trophy.
Though, I don't see them as one of the favorites, but I will not be surprise if they eventually grow colossal.
Nigeria is one team that has the strongest bench. Sometimes players sitting on the reserve bench seems even better than those on the pitch. A big selection headache for the coach. But If they manage to get the right bend of players going in this competition, no othet team will be able to withstand them.
Apart from Nigeria, the other real contenders are Ghana, Mali, Cote'd Ivoire and probably Algeria..
The DarkHorses
Angola will be the most difficult team to play against in this competition. I don't see them winning, but they may pull some surprises. They have very good ball jugglers and can really push big teams around. Just the way they made minced of Tunisia in their first game 1 - 1 draw. It will take tenacious and high tactical discipline team to subdue this Angolan side.
Another dark horse to watch out for is Zimbabwe. If they can get their second group game going for them, then they are capable of causing some upsets in the competition.
The Giant Killer
Burundi showed great strength and team organization in their first game against Nigeria. They showed no form of fright or respect for the three times champions with array of world class stars. As they are called, Swallows of Burundi, they would have swallowed the West African giant and cause a mojor world upset in this competition.
Burundian team can become Giant killers if they get their game going against fellow debutant Madagascar on Wednesday. Watch out!
