2020 Delta State School Sports Festival - Re-echoes the Development of Grassroots Sports in Nigeria

Delta state government unveils the LOGO and MASCOT of the 2020 School Sports Festival and re- echoes that development of sports in Nigeria especially that of schools requires a huge responsibility and capital that the government alone cannot shoulder.

 Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Patrick Uka who performed the unveiling in Asaba on behalf of the state government said the development calls for private individuals and corporate bodies to partner with the government for sports growth.

Uka said the 2020 school sports festival which is the second edition after revamping school sports in the state will be elaborate as more sporting events have been introduced in the scheme.

The 2020 school sports he explained will feature 11 sports organized in 3 categories, Primary, Junior and Secondary schools expected to register and indicate the sports of their interest.

Going by the sports festival timetable, it is organised in 4 levels, school, local government, zone and the state final while the event the commissioner said is already at the elimination stage.

Ukah attributed the state feat in sports in the country and beyond to Governor Okowa whom he said has gone an extra mile in supporting the ministry for sports development in schools
