As Sale of Liverpool New Jersey Skyrockets, Nike Chief Explains the Colour Theme of the Away Kit

Liverpool’s new 2020/21 away kit, the first designed by Nike, takes a step away from the historical tried and trusted. But then, both the home and away Jerseys are enjoying unprecedented sales skyrocketing in several markets around the world.

In the past, the Reds’ second colours have predominantly been a mixture of white, green, yellow and black kits, with the occasional orange or grey thrown in for good measure.

But that only emphasises the difference of Nike’s ‘Hyper Turquoise’ offering even more.

Building on the introduction of teal to the home jersey, that was unveiled at the start of the month, Liverpool’s new away shirt sees the colour used alongside references to the club and city.

Nike’s VP Football Apparel, Scott Munson, has explained how the kit providers decided on the latest colours.

“In the home, we brought all three colours of the club’s crest and its identity,” he told Nike’s website

“We knew that bringing in teal was pretty significant.

“We tried to find the right balance of traditional with a modern twist. That colour was most recently used in 1993, in a more subtle way but we felt we were being a bit bolder with it. The club and the fans were ready for it.
