Hon. Obinna Ogba Appointment As Nigeria National League Chairman
Hon. Obinna Ogba has been appointed as the new chairman of the Nigeria National League in place the late Hon. Chidi Ofo Okenwa, who died on 5 May 2020.
Senator Ogba who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Sports will also replace Okenwa on the Executive Board of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The appointment was ratified by the Executive Committee at a virtual meeting held on Monday which also saw the NFF release a breakdown of how it intends to disburse the covid-19 relief funds from FIFA, CAF and its sponsors.
The Board also mandated the Chairman of the LMC, Mallam Shehu Dikko to, as soon as possible, propose and conclude the process of recruiting a suitable CEO for the LMC following the resignation of Hon. Nduka Irabor as CEO of the LMC.
Other decisions reached at the meeting include a timeline of five days for the NFF Technical and Development Committee and Integrity Office to submit a shortlist of candidates to be selected by the board for the position of NFF Technical Director.
Both committees have also been tasked to provide the Board with a shortlist of candidates for the positions of Head Coaches for the U20 and U17 National Women Teams, the U15 Boys National Team, as well as candidates for the position of Consultant on Coaches Training and Development.
The Board also urged its external consultants PwC to submit a shortlist of candidates for the positions of Head Coach of the Super Falcons, NFF Head of Women Football, Head of Compliance Unit and Chief Commercial Officer as soon as possible.
The Executive Committee also mandated its Youth Football Committee to conclude the modalities for the staging of the first-ever U15 Future Super Falcons’ Tournament, in the mode of the NFF/Zenith Bank U15 Super Eagles Championship that has been running for the past four years.
The Board also revealed that it has sought a special waiver from the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to call the players to camp in preparation for the U20 and U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying matches.
